Coming up with a dance/choreography logo is a tough task mainly because of the limitation of signifiers you could use to denote the field of work, which is dance. In some cases, choreographers then resort to their faces, initials, or bank on icons, symbolisms, and things they favor for a more unique and personal touch.
Brian Puspos and Ian Eastwood are well-known in the international scene mainly for pairing up well outside and during ABDC’s Season 7 under MOS WANTED CREW.
Having a chance to build a mark for their duo – PusWood, a combination of their names – I had to get something they both would like to carry and represent.
The initial idea I had was a monogram of PW. But coming up with a proper integration to make it pleasing is a challenge.
But I didn’t want to make it seem one letter was superior to the other, which is why I opted for maximum symmetry as much as possible and ended up going with the 3rd option from the photo above.
Their inclination towards the series “Sons of Anarchy” was introduced later on, which was a good and unique application for the design. This carried onto the shirt design I was making for their first official PusWood apparel under Love Army.
As for the font used for “PusWood,” it’s not a font at all. If you played with those Stabillo markers back in grade school you’ll get the concept ;)
In the end, the PW monogram was finalized to look fierce and friendly. Knowing the market and dance scene, it’s always good to look bad-ass yet cute at the same time!
Finally, applying the same theme onto the shirt design, the Love Army Puswood Shirts were born. As seen below, the logo/PW Monogram can stand alone as rendered onto Brian.
The Puswood shirts will be available at limited stocks when you attend the sessions to be held by PusWood themselves when they come over to Manila this March 22,23, and 24 at the Big Shift Studios, in partnership with Rocketeer Inc. Kindly check their pages, as linked, for more info.
